There’s no doubt that houseplants are hot right now, and the trend isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. From flowers to foliage, it seems like customers can’t get enough green to put in their homes. In March, we polled 180 garden centers in North America that sell houseplants about these hot-ticket items and found that most expect the houseplant craze to continue in 2020.

Nearly 90% of IGCs selling houseplants reported that they increased their offerings in the last two years to offer more varieties. And 85% said they plan to increase their offerings again this year.

When it comes to determining the prices for houseplants, most said that they base it on type of plant, pot size, demand or a combination of all three. Many also mentioned that they consider availability and about 13% said they take the wholesale cost of the plant into consideration.

Read on to find out how IGCs are capitalizing on the craze now and in the future.
