Armed with binoculars and checklists, birders across the globe track and submit their findings during a three-day span to The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). This year, Northern cardinal, dark-eyed junco and mourning dove ranked in the top three most frequently reported species list for the second year in a row. The GBBC uses these crowd-sourced checklists to generate a glimpse of where birds are in real-time, along with an annual report. The GBBC works in partnership with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Audubon Society and Bird Studies Canada to provide yearly tallies of the top 10 species, checklists and more. Here are the findings for 2019:
