During a four-day period each February, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society encourage birdwatchers, both amateur and professional, to submit their bird observations through the Great Backyard Bird Count.

The 21st annual Great Backyard Bird Count, which took place Feb. 16-19, 2018, included more than 192,000 participants, who recorded their bird sightings. Here are some key statistics from the count:
